A look into the controversy of Ticketmaster, continued
Despite Pearl Jam’s best efforts, Ticketmaster only became more influential in the live music industry.
The ticketing company bought out multiple smaller corporations in the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2010, Ticketmaster merged with its largest competitor, Live Nation and now controls more than 70 percent of the live events market, according to Vox.
Live music fans have criticized the corporation’s service fees along with its dynamic pricing policy.
Drake fans have expressed their frustration over social media.
One fan commented: “ticketmaster really need to be investigated for these abnormal service fees.”
A look into the controversy of Ticketmaster
Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour blew up the power Ticketmaster has in the live music industry, but the company has a long history of controversy.
Almost 30 years ago, Eddie Vedder spoke out about what he believed was an illegal monopoly Ticketmaster had on live concerts.
Pearl Jam then testified in an antitrust investigation by the Clinton Justice Department.
The department then dropped the investigation in 1995 and Pearl Jam suffered the consequences.
The American Prospect’s look into Ticketmaster’s dark history revealed the company even disabled ticketing machines that allowed Pearl Jam to distribute tickets to members of their fan club.
Fans slam Ticketmaster
Fans share their frustration with Ticketmaster on Twitter amid Drake and 21 Savage tickets going on sale to the general public.
"COUNT YOUR DAYS," one fan warned the ticket site.
@Ticketmaster is the devil. You’ll never be able to get reasonably priced tickets to anything anymore. $300 for nose bleeds for my kids to see Drake? Smh."
I hope 2023 is the end of ticketmaster fr
